Actimeter

Track your activity

Have you ever wondered, how productive or active you were on your computer during the past 10 minutes? Or the past hour?

Did you spend most of the time just staring at the screen, instead of typing and clicking?

About Actimeter

Actimeter is an application that tracks your computer activity and shows it on a traditional, easy-to-read meter.

Actimeter does this by counting the frequency of all your computer interactions or events: mouse clicks, keystrokes *, scrolls and mouse moves. It then calculates a score value on a scale from 0 to 100, using a carefully designed mathematical formula.

The score is calculated based on a time period that you can adjust yourself: the time period can be as short as one minute or as long as 90 minutes. Shorter periods make Actimeter react faster, longer periods give a more realistic view of your activity.

As an example, let's say you set the time period to 30 minutes. Actimeter starts to count your actions and stores the total count of each kind of action separately. When the 30 minutes is up, it continues to count your actions, but also starts to drop (or "forget") the oldest ones, so that only the last 30 minutes worth of actions are always counted for.

You can also adjust the frequency of Actimeter's tracking from only once a second to as fast as 10 times a second. The faster the tracking is, the smoother Actimeter reacts and moves. Please note that faster tracking requires more power and more computer resources. You should try different tracking speeds to find a suitable balance between Actimeter's performance and your Mac's capability.

A more detailed description of all Actimeter features can be found in the User guide.

System Requirements:
  • Actimeter is compatible with macOS 10.12 Sierra or newer (macOS 10.13 High Sierra, macOS 10.14 Mojave, macOS 10.15 Catalina).
  • Testing with macOS 11 Big Sur is currently in progress.

*) Please note that counting keystrokes requires an explicit permission from you, using a setting in your Mac's System Preferences. This is something that all Mac apps need to do if they want to access keystrokes, not just Actimeter. Our support pages have detailed instructions on how to do this.
